About the Organization:
Ministry of Law and Justice is the oldest limb of the Government of India dating back to 1833 when the Charter Act 1833 was enacted by the British Parliament. The said Act vested for the first time legislative power in a single authority, namely the Governor-General in Council. By virtue of this authority and the authority vested under him under section 22 of the Indian Councils Act 1861 the Governor-General in Council enacted laws for the country from 1834 to 1920. After the commencement of the Government of India Act 1919 the legislative power was exercised by the Indian Legislature constituted thereunder.
About the Internship:
The Ministry of Law and Justice’s Legislative Department is primarily responsible for the drafting of all major legislation for the Central Government, including bills to be introduced in Parliament, presidential ordinances, measures to be enacted as President’s Acts for States under the President’s rule, and regulations to be made by the President for Union territories.
Eligibility:
Students in their fourth and fifth years of a five-year integrated law program are eligible.
Students in their final year of a three-year law program at a nationally recognized law school.
Students who have chosen Legislative Drafting as a subject in their course of study will be given priority.
Vacancy- 5 interns at a time is the maximum number of selected interns.
Time period: 4-6 weeks.
Internship Profile:
Any responsibility relating to study, research, or other activities connected to the Department’s operations.
They can work under the supervision of whichever officer the department chooses.
The internships’ work will be reviewed by the Department.
At the conclusion of their internship, interns may be asked to deliver a report.
The intern’s work will become the Department’s property.
The intern will only be permitted to access the Ministry of Law and Justice’s library for reference reasons.
Remuneration:
The internship is not remunerated.
Under the arrangement, ILDR will not pay any compensation, allowances, or expenses, and it will not take on any employment obligations.
Perks:
A certificate of internship would be provided to all interns .It will be issued by ILDR only after successful completion of the internship
How to Apply:
Students who are interested should complete out the application form that is attached to the official notification. [See the application link at below of this post for more information.]
Every application must be submitted on the attached form and must be suggested by the Dean or Head of Department (HOD) of the institution where the student is enrolled.
A brief application of no more than 250 words describing the applicant’s interest in legislative writing must be attached to the application form.
